Orton asked: Runner on third with two out.
Runner starts running home and batter hits ball to infielder.
Runner crosses home plate before batsman is thrown out at first. Does the run score?
Second situation. Runner on third with two out.
Runner starts running home and batter swings and misses. This is strike three; but catcher drops the ball.

Rick answered: Orton, thank you for your question!
In both situations, the batter must reach first base safely for the run to count. It makes no difference if the runner reaches home plate first.
Should the bases be loaded and the catcher drops a third strike, coaches teach and generally need to remind their catchers, that they can pick up the ball and step on home plate, as the runner from third becomes a force when the batter becomes a batter/runner.
By doing so, you avoid the possiblility of an overthrow at first base and multiple runners scoring because of it.

Rick
