Foul Ball
Javier asked: Batter hits a pop fly and it's a foul ball, but hit the player and goes back in.
Is it still a fair ball?
Rick answered: Javier, thank you for your question.
Section 16 Foul, Foul Tip Art 1...A foul is a batted ball:
d) that, while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or player or any object foreign to the natural ground.
As you describe your situation, it would be ruled a foul ball when it touched a player on or over foul ground. Ball immediately becomes dead.
As you look at the image above, the first baseman in this instance is completely in foul ground.
If the ball touches him, or his glove and falls into fair territory, it is foul.
Yours in baseball,
Rick
