In baseball if you have runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, and the runners are stealing on pitch, where does the short stop go?

The shortstop is headed behind third base, to help out in case of a bad throw.
If the batter is a right handed hitter, the SS has less ground to cover to backup.
If the batter is left handed, the SS would be shaded more to the second base bag; but he could still have him going to backup third, as most always, you will want the catcher to throw to third. Much shorter throw than down to second.
