Scored A Base Hit
Joe asked: Batter hit hard ground ball to right field, infielder has no chance to make a play, but right fielder could have easily thrown batter out, but bobbles the ball.
How should this be scored?
Rick answered: Joe, thank you for your question.
It should be scored as a base hit.
Even though the outfielder could possibly have thrown the batter out, had he not bobbled the ball, the batter had already cleared the infield on his hit.
Anything coming from the outfield would be over and above. Had he made the play, runner out. Bobble trying to make something out of it, base hit.
Yours in baseball,
Rick
