Who was the first player to have a walk off home run as their first home run?
by Jeff Nash
(Akron Ohio)
Bill Duggelby
Jeremy Hermida
Kevin Kouzmanoff
Daniel Nava
Jeff asked: I was sitting with my bar buddies one evening when one friend asked the question above.
It had us all scratching our heads and wondering if it has ever happened.
Then I brought up another question. Has any player ever hit a grand slam walk off home run as their first home run. Thank you for your time.
Rick answered: Jeff, thank you for your question.
The four players above hit a Grand Slam in their first MLB at bat. A small group indeed.
Even smaller, Duggelby(1898), Kouzmanoff(2006) and Nava(2011) hit theirs on the first pitch they saw. A lot of stars had to have lined up for those events to occur.
Could not find where any player had a walk off home run as their first home run, nor a Grand Slam walk off Home Run as their first Home Run. To even be in the position to do so would be exceptionally rare.
The four gentlemen pictured above, to hit a Grand Slam in their first MLB at bat, with 3 hitting it on the first pitch they saw is special.
Yours in baseball,
Rick
